ENDORSEMENTS
Revelation by Dr Mark Durie provides us with a succinct statement outlining the very significant differences between Allah and God. Mark engages directly and graciously with the issues. He has supported his comments with quotations from the Bible, the Quran and the Hadiths, as well as from writers in the first few centuries AD. This book is easy to read and the points made are easy to digest.
CANON DR DAVID CLAYDON, Former International Director of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization
Revelation is a timely book to wake people up to the fundamental differences between YHWH and Allah. Dr Mark Durie has approached this comparison in a scholarly fashion, basing his discussion on a wide variety of evidence. This, I believe, will make his book influential, challenging and a blessing to many who read it.
DANIEL SHAYESTEH, Director of Exodus from Darkness
This informative and incisive book, Revelation?, fills a much-needed gap: it clarifies a question that has been the subject of considerable confusion and obfuscation, leading to numerous wasted initiatives and blind alleys of all sorts. Mark Durie marshals the evidence impressively and explains it clearly, settling once and for all questions about the relationship between Islam and Christianity that have far-reaching theological, ecumenical and even political implications.
ROBERT SPENCER, Best-selling author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)
Revelation by Dr Mark Durie includes copious references to the Islamic sacred texts and primary source material: Qur’an, Hadith and authoritatie biography of Muhammad. It also draws on the author’s detailed understanding of the Bible, Christian history and theology. Dr Durie combines within the study the rigor of the scholar and the commitment of the faithful Christian. The result is a work which provides clear guidance in an accessible manner of one of today’s most frequently-asked questions. Those uncomfortable with Christian approaches to Islam based on robust apologetics will be challenged, but such approaches are needed in the contemporary world where many Muslim are leveling key challenges to the Church and the Christian faith.
PETER RIDDELL Professor of Islamic Studies, Bible College of Victoria
To make Islam more acceptable to enquirers and others, Muslims attempt to revise Judeo-Christian history and theoloy in part, by claiming that followers of these three religions worship the same God. Through a careful analysis of the texts, sacred to each respectively, Dr Mark Durie from his background in linguistics and theology, demonstrates that this claim is without substance. Allah of the Koran and the LORD God (YHWH) of the Bible are two distinct identities. This book is fundamental and necessary reading for all who search for truth and understanding.
STUART ROBINSON, Author of Mosques and Miracles
Dr Durie has written a timely work, it does no favour and is no mark of respect to either Islam or Christianity to be fuzzy about their respective beliefs and values. Dr Durie carefully and astutely shows the fundamental differences between these two world religions in their beliefs about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. His research is based on the primary documents of both faiths. This is not a hearsay piece. The tone is fair-minded. An important work, culturally relevant and lucid in exposition. Revelation is a must read!
PROFESSOR GRAHAM COLE, Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield
Dr Durie’s primer, Revelation - written in lucid prose - makes explicit the theological roots of Islamic supersessionism, in essence, the Muslim assertion that Islam as the ‘primordial monotheism’ represents both the ‘true’ Christianity and the ‘true’ Judaism. This concise text should be required reading for all Christians (and Jews) prior to engaging in interfaith dialogue with Muslims to avoid ‘papering over’ deep theological differences between Islam and both Judaism and Christianity, which undermine the very foundations of these latter two faiths. Christians will find particularly unsettling the Islamic conception of Isa - the Muslim Jesus - whose ‘job description’ includes the final destruction of Christianity.
ANDREW BOSTOM MD, Author of The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Fate of Non-Muslims
Revelation is stimulating, sensitive, scholarly, pastoral: just some of my repsonses to this excellent guide to the perplexed. Respect for the texts of Islam and Christianity form the basis of this insightful work. Mark Durie has set a high standard in interfaith engagement; brace yourself for the journey.
